Maya Steinberg is a Tel Aviv–born, Berlin-based filmmaker, editor, and writer. She began her career in publishing, producing print content for leading magazines including National Geographic Israel, before transitioning to film and television during her studies at Tel Aviv University. Alongside her studies, she worked as a video editor for major Israeli broadcasters including Reshet, Keshet, and Kan. Her documentary NEVER COMING BACK TO AMERICA premiered on Channel 8 and continues to be broadcast in Israel.

 

After relocating to Berlin in 2019, Maya completed an M.A. in Visual and Media Anthropology at Freie Universität Berlin and an M.A. in Directing at Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. Her graduation film, ONE OF US NOW, premiered at DOK Leipzig 2022 and screened internationally. As an editor, she has worked on a range of documentary projects, including the feature film MISS HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR and A BODY LIKE MINE, which premiered on 3sat.

 

Maya currently teaches in the Visual and Media Anthropology program at HMKW Berlin and works internationally as a director, writer, and editor. Her feature documentary WHAT IS LEFT received development funding from ZDF Das kleine Fernsehspiel, and her feature documentary COLLECTIVE NO CHOICE received development funding from MDM – Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung.
